Apple Float Stroke (new)

<---- Click On Picture for Video

Step #1:
ALWAYS USE CLEAN WATER! Begin by wetting your brush in the clean water. Blot your brush on a paper towel to get rid of excess water in the brush.

Step #2:
Load your brush in the red paint, by putting BOTH SIDES of the long point of the angular in the color. As shown in the picture, the paint covers a little less than 1/4” of the top of the angle.

Step #3:
After loading the brush as above, the next step is to blend the color into the brush. Using palette paper, and keeping the chisel edge horizontal, begin blending by pulling the brush toward you, while pressing down on the brush. Repeat this procedure 6 or 7 times, ALWAYS STAYING ON THE EXACT SAME PLACE. That is, you are doing the exact same stroke on top of each other 6 or 7 times. This allows the proper blending of the paint through the brush.

Step #4:
After blending your brush, begin a “C” stroke to the left. With the long end of the angle on your left, and the chisel edge still horizontal, and with the handle straight up, do a “C” stroke to the left. Begin on the chisel edge, press down slightly as you pull the brush toward you. At the bottom of the “C” stroke, bring the brush back up to the chisel edge and pull slightly to the right.

Step #5:
Reload and Blend your brush as above. Repeat the same procedure in Step 3A, but as a “C” stroke to the right. Begin this stroke in the center, or at the start of the “C” stroke to the left. Be sure and have the long end of the angle to your right.

Step #6:
After completing the 2 “C” strokes in the previous step, it is now necessary to “walk” the color. This is accomplished by doing the similar “C” strokes starting about 1/8” in from the edge of your apple. You will do this “walking” several times, always moving in 1/8” for each stroke until you reach the center. Before you “walk” the other side of the apple, let the paint dry. After reloading and blending your brush again, “walk” the other side of your apple in the same manner, always moving in 1/8” for each stroke.

Step #7:
: Using the chisel edge tip of your brush, paint a small line at the top center of your apple, as shown in the picture. This pronounces the dimple for the stem.

Step #8:
Using the size 6 Round, load the brush all the way around in a brown paint. Load the brush 3/4 to the ferrule. At the top and center of the apple, start on the tip of the brush, with the handle perpendicular to the surface. Press down slightly while pushing away from you, and moving slightly to the left or right. This is the stem.

Step #9:
Clean your 6 Round. Load your 6 Round as above in a green paint, for the leaf of the apple. Starting part way up the stem, keeping the handle fairly perpendicular to the surface, lay the hair down with the hair point away from you. Pull the brush toward you, slightly moving to the left. Gradually lift up the brush and twist up to the point. Then repeat this stroke directly to the right of the first stroke. This stroke should be right on the edge of the first stroke, ending at the same point.

Step #10:
TIP: A variation of this apple can be obtained by painting this apple on a gold base. When you “walk” you color, the gold comes through to present a different effect.

Step #12:
TIP: When “floating” always use the largest size brush that you can use for your project.
